Elementary school: Visit of the Technical Museum in Zagreb on
Tuesday, November 7th, 2006 "On Tuesday November 7th, 2006, we visited the Technical Museum of Zagreb We were accompanied by Lovro’s Daddy, a teacher of physics, who was our guide during the whole visit through the museum. It is a big museum with objects exposed on several floors."
"Afterwards, the light came back progressively like dawn, and we went out to have a look on the objects exposed outside the planetarium. There were space machines such as rockets, satellites and other devices used on the Moon as early as 1969. We listened to the sounds of these space machines like the launching of a rocket." "Then we left the space world and went down to the mines: We were walking through the mine corridors quite a long time. This was the working place of the miners who had to dig for coal. In former times, people made a big use of coal for the functioning of factory machines or for locomotives as well as for the heating in private houses. (Today, we rather use gas or petrol than coal.)" "The miner’s job was a very difficult and exhausting one because men were working in mines where they saw no daylight at all. In the mines the air was very hot and full of coal dust which often made the miners feel sick. Near the lifts, there was a machine with bells which rang every-time when one of the lifts went up or down carrying miners or coal, or when there was some kind of danger." "After having finished our visit of the mines, we went up to the ground floor to see the exposition of old machines and vehicles: We saw the first parachute, hanging down from the ceiling, old war planes and even an old helicopter which still functions. There were also old cars, trains and trams of Zagreb one of which had to be pulled by a horse. We also saw a collection of fire engines as well as the firemen’s uniforms. Our guide told us that those fire engines could still be put into function. In the big hall, we even saw a submarine!" Additional school activities:
